The first one was so good, we’re doing it again!
What it is:
An eight-week, once-a-week online workshop, using Zoom, for intermediate to advanced writers.
To learn more about my approach and expectations, go to this page and see the description of “Meghan Daum’s Private Workshops.” This is essentially just like that, only stretched out over a longer period and not in person. No food, alas, but no travel either.
When it is:
Every Monday for eight weeks, beginning January 10 and running through February 28, 2022, 3- 6pm eastern time (give or take). If that’s your meal time, feel free to eat discreetly during the class.
How it will work:
Class will meet once a week, for 2-3 hours on Zoom. I will lead general conversations about craft and the business of publishing as well as discussions of student work. Students will have two opportunities to workshop manuscripts up to 15 double-spaced pages each, with at least 45 minutes devoted to each workshop discussion. Please note that this is very much a conversation class. I believe that when it comes to nonfiction, much can be accomplished by talking through ideas with trusted peers. Your writing will be critiqued if you like, but you also have the option of bringing in ideas and talking with the group about how they might be implemented.
Manuscripts are to be distributed to the class at least one week before the day they’re to be workshopped. Students are expected to have read, made notes and be ready to offer constructive feedback to fellow students.
We will have a Zoom visit from at least one guest speaker (hopefully two) during the course. Guest will be a published writer and/or an editor or literary agent working in the industry.
Class size to be determined, but will not exceed 12 students.
How to apply:
To apply, please submit a writing sample not exceeding 15 double-spaced pages along with a note explaining your creative and professional goals by Monday, December 20, 2021
I will get back you within a few days of the deadline.
Fee: $1800 ($300 deposit required upon acceptance. Balance due by Monday, January 3, 2022.)
Hugo the Newfie dog will make regular appearances.
